Teething

a stop-motion costume collection developed to explore how the expectations, allowed “freedoms”, and restrictions we place on youth limits their ability to create an independent, open minded, and compassionate adult self. Growth can be stunted not only physically and mentally, but emotionally and socially when a child is limited or neglected from a young age. When we limit a child's curiosity and experience, we are negating their ability to grow and think on their own. Without having this foundation of independence, children will not trust their parents to help them navigate controversial discussions. The costumes below reflect the ideas a child may commonly interact with during development; Natural Curiosity, Gender Identity, Money as a Form of Power, and the influence of Social Media.

The Puppet itself was also entirely created by Jenna, and was built under the industry’s standard. The costumes themselves are also built with the intention of movement, each asset is wired, backed, or stiffened.

A Night in the Circus

Unlike in Teething, A Night in the Circus was not limited by a set color pallet and material context, but was rather an opportunity to explore. With a loose concept from one of her childhood dreams, the clown had very few limitations allowing a safe space to explore her first puppet design. The character began as a very old self portrait, and then inspired the character below ten years later.
